In a rapidly-changing world, water resources are increasingly vulnerable. These mounting difficulties are the result of demographic growth, economic development, urbanization, pollution, but also evolutions in the climate and their consequences (drought, severely low water levels, flash floods, etc.). In this context, it is more necessary than ever before to preserve water, a vital resource, indispensable for life, related to energy supply, and which provides health, food and education services for all.
That is why the Société Eau de Marseille Métropole (Marseilles Metropolitan Water Society) has planned to organize, in partnership with the Mediterranean Water Institute (IME), Mediterranean network of water professionals: International Wtare Symposium on “Water preservation: Solutions for sustainable water service management”, in Hémicycle du Pavillon de la Métropole, Jardin du Pharo, Marseille on the 2nd of October 2017.
On this occasion, solutions, ongoing projects and best practices will be presented, in the regional, Mediterranean and sub-Saharan contexts. Stakeholders from Algeria, Burkina Faso, France, Mali, Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia among other countries will share their field experiences with French counterparts around three main subjects:
(1) Improving performance in water resources management
(2) Innovative development solutions for climate change mitigation and adaptation
(3) Successful experiences in international cooperation and aid
Tangible presentations, such as on the control and saving of water resources, the energy performance of water facilities, the improvement in productivity of networks, new types of management contracts of high-performance services, as well as raising awareness on saving habits, will facilitate an exchange on best practices and the setting up of tangible solutions adapted to the specificities of the site.
